RCS&RDS has stopped distributing Universal and Diva on its cable and DTH platforms in Romania.
According to Media Expres, the move follows the withdrawal of Universal Channel Romania from Thor 6 at one degree West and Diva Universal Romania from Intelsat 10-02.
The two satellites are used to distribute several platforms in South East Europe, including RCS&RDS’s Digi TV and UPC’s Focus Sat.
It adds that NBC Universal notified cable operators last November that it would switch to Eutelsat.
Referring to comments on social networks and discussion forums, Media Expres says that the main reason for the discontinuation of the two channels on RCS&RDS is that the two parties could not agree on a price per subscriber.
It adds that distribution of NBC Universal services in Romania is secured through a Bucharest-based company named Fan TV.
However, major market players, such as RCS&RDS, the country’s leading cable and DTH operator, negotiate directly with NBC Universal representatives in London.
The withdrawal of the two channels has echoes of a similar situation that existed between RCS&RDS and Discovery two years ago.
As it that case, it is likely to attract complaints from RCS&RDS subscribers.
