German pay-TV broadcaster Sky Deutschland has taken another step towards a regular Ultra HD service by transmitting the concert of German hip-hop Band Die Fantastischen Vier live from Stuttgart on December 20, 2014 in the new format.
It has been Sky Deutschland’s first Ultra HD live production beyond the football field. The test run was made to gain more experiences on the route to a regular Ultra HD service, according to the broadcaster.
10 native Ultra HD cameras have been used to capture the event. The signal was encoded in real time in collaboration with Fraunhofer HHI/Rohde & Schwarz with 35 Mps HEVC and transmitted encrypted at 50 frames per second in Dolby 5.1. For test purposes, it was also produced in Audio 3D 9.1 for the first time.
The Ultra HD live coverage was received by four test households equipped with Sony Bravia 55X9 TV sets in collaboration with Sony as well as in the Arri cinema in Munich.
