HBO and LG Electronics have launched the first OTT application for the premium broadcaster by making the HBO Go app available on LG smart TVs in the Netherlands.
LG is the first CE manufacturer to make HBO Go available on smart TVs. It is working on all models from 2012 onwards.
Although the service is OTT, people need a current HBO subscription with one of the Dutch platforms in order to access the service.
This situation might change when HBO will launch its stand-alone OTT service in 2015, which does not require authentication.
In a related development, Amazon has announced that HBO Go is now available on its Fire TV devices for authenticated users.
“Since launch we’ve increased the number of services available on Amazon Fire TV by more than 4 times,” said Peter Larsen, VP, Amazon devices.
“We’re thrilled to add HBO Go, the most requested service, to Fire TV in time for the holidays. HBO has produced some of the most groundbreaking and award-winning TV shows and movies, and we are excited to bring this amazing content to our customers, all of which is accessible via voice search on your Fire TV remote.”
