German CE market to decline in 2015

December 16, 2014 10.25 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

BITKOMThe turnover with consumer electronics (CE) devices will go down in Germany by 3.3% to €10.2 billion in 2015, reports German industry association BITKOM with reference to market prognosis by the European Information Technology Observatory (EITO).

The strong decline in 2013 in which turnover dropped by almost 15% will thereby not be halted completely, but it will be considerably slowed down.

Almost half (44%) of the CE turnover will be generated by flat-screen TV sets. The turnover with sales of flat-screen TV sets will decline by 1.5% to €4.7 billion, according to the market estimate. Three quarters of the turnover will be made with connected TV sets.

The turnover with sales of digital cameras will drop by 11% to €1.1 billion. Low-budget cameras are increasingly replaced by smartphones, reducing the overall market volume. Increasingly in demand are, however, high-quality cameras.

The turnover with stereo home equipment will grow by 3% to €1.5 billion. The development is mainly driven by internet-capable devices which take online radio and music streaming services into the living room.
