A new Ukrainian international news channel aimed specifically at Russian speakers worldwide may soon make its debut.
According to AKTR and obob.tv, it will be named Pravda Russian World Channel and distributed around-the-clock by Astra at 4.8 degrees East.
Its owner, Pavel Elizarov, the chairman of the production company Savik Shuster Studio, whose facilities it will use, aims to provide objective, complete and impartial information about events in Ukraine, Russia and other countries of the former Soviet Union.
Pravda Russian World Channel will be based in Kiev and plans to obtain a broadcasting licence this month.
According to a spokesman for the regulator (National Council), this does not necessarily have to be a Ukrainian one for the service to operate.
Ukraine’s 1+1 Media group launched a 24-hour news channel named Ukraine Today in August.
Distributed via Hotbird and over the internet, it currently broadcasts in English.
