Sky Ireland is to launch a 100 Mbps fibre broadband service, starting in January.
The new product will make its debut two years after Sky first launched a fibre product in the Irish market. It currently offers 24 Mbps.
Sky will use Eircom’s eFibre wholesale product to deliver the package. The current DSL offer is via BT Ireland.
No numbers have been revealed as to the take up of the existing offer, but Sky says it is the fastest growing Internet provider in the Republic.
Two packages will be on offer: Sky Fibre with a 25 GB monthly cap, free local and national evening and weekend calls, and a 12 month contract for €40 per month including line rental.
A second pack, Sky Fibre Unlimited, with no limits on data usage will be available for €50 per month. Subscribers to the unlimited data pack will be offered an introductory price of €30 for the first six months.
At launch one million homes will be able to subscribe to the product, rising to 1.6 million by the end of 2015.
