Russia’s MTS has undertaken UHD tests and is ready to offer its subscribers services once reception equipment becomes more widely available.
However, quoted by Comnews and AKTR, MTS executives did not provide further details about when, where and on what equipment the company tested the format.
They did nevertheless maintain that MTS has sufficient satellite capacity to offer UHD services.
Such services are already available in Russia, with Tricolor TV having begun regular broadcasts of a pilot channel, in cooperation with Eutelsat, in late October.
It now expects to start regular broadcasts in UHD in spring 2015.
Meanwhile, NTV-Plus broadcast in UHD from the Sochi Winter Olympics earlier this year, showing a live ceremony in partnership with Broadcom and Elemental.
