BT TV is to offer buy-to-keep movies across multiple devices in addition to the set-top box.
The telco says that films purchased on a BT TV YouView or Vision+ box will be made automatically available on smartphones, tablets or PCs at no extra cost.
Customers will be allowed to watch content on up to four different Apple or Android devices, either watching instantly or downloaded for later viewing.
BT has also launched its own TV Everywhere service, allowing customers to watch their TV channels on multiple devices. It’s offered as part of BT TVs extra box service.
Using the new BT TV App for smartphones and tablets, customers can now record programmes from their TV guide on all of the TV channels on their YouView+ set-top box while they are out of the home. Such apps are well established with Sky and Virgin each with their own version.
Alex Green, director of BT TV, said: “BT TV was the first TV platform to offer buy-to-keep movies. Now we’re the first to offer these movies digitally on multiple devices. We believe customers will increasingly choose digital ownership given its freedom and flexibility and the ability to create your own personal movie library. Meanwhile our TV Everywhere service allows families to enjoy some of their favourite channels around the home and on the move.”
BT TV’s buy-to-keep films include many of the latest blockbusters and a selection of modern greats and classics from, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, Entertainment One UK, NBCUniversal and Disney.
