German commercial free-to-air TV channel RTL Nitro will become available on digital terrestrial frequencies in federal state North-Rhine Westphalia.
Local media authority LfM has decided at its latest meeting to allocate the broadcast slot vacated by CNN International to Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland, an LfM spokeswoman told Broadband TV News. The footprint covers the urban areas of Cologne/Bonn and the Düsseldorf/Ruhr region.
The launch details are currently negotiated between RTL and transmitter network operator Media Broadcast. It will be the first time for RTL Nitro to broadcast via DTT in Germany.
Besides RTL, ProSiebenSat.1 also applied for the slot to distribute ProSieben Maxx. According to the spokeswoman, LfM is evaluating whether it is possible to create further capacity to add the channel as well.
