Canal Plus Group has seen a quarter in which the pay-TV group was supported by its international operations, while in France subscription VOD service Canalplay accelerated its growth.
Canal recorded 14.8 million subscriptions, up 605,000 year-on-year, attributed to strong performances in Africa and Vietnam. The French market held its own, despite January’s VAT increase from 7% to 10%, and helped by the growth of SVOD.
The unlimited Canalplay had more than 520,000 subscribers as of September 30.
Group revenues came in at €3,967 million, a 2.8% increase compared to the first nine months of 2013. Canal+ Group’s EBITA was €626 million compared to €647 million for the first nine months of 2013.
In France, revenues from free-to-air television also rose, bolstered by the increase in the audience of D8, which has become one of the more popular channels on the French DTT network.
