Germany’s largest cable operator Kabel Deutschland has reported 108,000 new contracts for its internet service and 98,000 new telephony contracts in Q2 2014/15 (September 30, 2014).
2.4 million of the total of 8.3 million customers now surf and phone through the cable network. One year ago, the figure amounted to 2.1 million.
“Internet and telephony through the TV cable network remain our growth drivers,” CEO Manuel Cubero said in Munich. “Around half our new customers opt for a 100Mbps subscription. We have now also started offering our new internet services with a speed of up to 200Mbps in the first cities and regions.”
Kabel Deutschland increased its turnover in Q2 2014/15 by 6% to €500 million compared with the same period last year. The EBITDA rose by 5% to €244 million. Below the line, a net profit of €67 million was achieved.
In Q2 2013/14, Kabel Deutschland posted a net loss of €129 million due to several one-time expenses associated with the takeover of the company by UK mobile network operator Vodafone amounting to €206 million.
