Milan-based RCS Media Group plans to spend up to €60 million over five years on a new sports channel.
According to TV Digital Divide, the service will be known as Gazzetta TV and distributed free-to-air via DTT.
It adds that RCS, whose interests include the newspaper Corriere della Sera and sports daily Gazzetta dello Sport, has as its stated goal to compete in the sports TV market, which is dominated in Italy by Sky, Mediaset, Rai and the reborn Sportitalia.
RCS aims to spend €8 million – €9 million on Gazzetta TV in the first two years, followed by €15 million a year for the next three years.
The channel will be managed by the Digital Factory, a subsidiary of Digicast, and probably have the Di Agostini group as a business partner.
