German cable operator Unitymedia Kabel BW has won 39,000 new customers for its multimedia box Horizon in Q3 2014 – an increase by 5,000 customers compared with Q2 2014.
On September 30, 2014, a total of more than 170,000 households had opted for the device introduced in September 2013. OTT service Horizon Go was used by almost 150,000 customers at the end of September.
Unitymedia Kabel BW recorded 77,000 new contracts for internet access and 63,000 new telephony contracts in Q3 2014 – a total of 16,000 more contracts than in Q2 2014.
From Unitymedia Kabel BW’s total customer base of 7.1 million, 2.8 million now use internet access and 2.7 million telephony services from the cable operator.
More than 60% of the newly acquired internet customers in Q3 2014 have opted for internet speeds of 100Mps or more, according to the Liberty Global subsidiary. The average data traffic volume generated per customer amounted to 50GB – an increase by 54% compared with the same period last year.
Unitymedia Kabel BW’s turnover rose by 5% to €510 million, the EBITDA climbed by 8% to €319 million. Below the line, however, the company dropped deeper into the red with a loss of €35 million (Q3 2013: €28 million loss).
