The pay-TV market is growing once more in Spain – at least in subscriber numbers – following a difficult last couple of years.
Data published by the regulator NMHH shows that there were a total of 4,309,356 pay-TV subscribers at the end of the second quarter, up from 3,969,823 three months earlier and 3,771,617 in the same period in 2013.
The biggest growth was seen at Telefónica, which had 1,205,797 customers as of the end of June, compared to 861,252 three months earlier.
Other strong performers included Euskaltel, R and Orange, while the market leader DTS Distribuidora de TV (1,623,975 v 1,661,386) and second placed Ono (77,667 v 781,850) both lost subscribers in the second quarter.
However, the overall growth in subscriber numbers has not been reflected in revenues.
The total of €408.61 million posted in Q2 compared to €409.30 million three months earlier and €425.82 million in the same period in 2013.
