Vodafone is looking into the possibility of entering Romania’s TV market, according to Vittorio Colao, the company’s CEO.
In a wide-ranging interview in Ziarul Financiar, he added that the group is considering all its options, including an acquisition or merger, and that better regulation is needed in the Romanian market.
Vodafone is currently the second largest mobile operator in Romania, with around 8 million customers, including over 3.3 million subscriptions, and has invested heavily in recent years in a national fibre infrastructure. It is likely to launch fixed services only in cities where it already has a strong presence in the mobile telephony market.
Colao also revealed that Vodafone has held discussions with all the major players in the market, including RCS&RDS and UPC Romania.
