OTE inks major sports deal

October 16, 2014 09.17 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

OTE ShopThe Greek incumbent OTE has signed an agreement with UEFA to broadcast Europe’s two leading football competitions for the next three seasons.

The deal, financial details of which have not been disclosed, will see the telco, which is 40%-owned by Deutsche Telekom, will see OTE TV show 133 out of 146 UEFA Champions League matches and the remaining 13 in parallel broadcast with a FTA network from 2015-2018.

OTE TV will also show all UEFA Europa League matches, up until the final, exclusively for the next three seasons, with the final also being shown by a FTA channel.

All matches from both tournaments will be broadcast via the upgraded OTE Sport channels live and in HD.

Commenting on the agreement, Zacharias Piperidis, OTE Group COO, said: “We are delighted to welcome the top-two football competitions in the world, Champions League and Europa League, to OTE TV from 2015 onwards. The addition of these two tournaments to the OTE TV programme is part of our strategy to further develop our pay TV portfolio via targeted moves. With Champions League, Europa League and the rest of the top international and Greek sports tournaments hosted by OTE TV, our clients enjoy by far the richest sports content in the country”.

OTE will soon launch tow more sports channels and also upgrade its existing OTE Sport channels to HD quality.
