German TV broadcaster Discovery Networks Deutschland will distribute women’s channel TLC instead of men’s channel DMAX via DTT in Munich in future.
“As TLC is already available to around 70% of German households on cable and satellite, Discovery Networks has decided to now also commence DTT distribution,” Alberto Horta, director of distribution & commercial strategies at Discovery Networks Deutschland, told Broadband TV News.
“TLC is a digital-only channel and, thus, ideally suited for DTT,” explained Horta. “We have therefore applied for permission to use the DTT slot of sister channel DMAX in the metropolitan area of Munich for TLC. Discovery, of course, wanted to gain approval by BLM in advance and has decided to carry out the changeover on January 1, 2015.
According to Horta, TLC has also launched on DTT in Berlin on October 6, 2014.
Bavarian media authority BLM recently gave the green light for the channel change in Munich. Discovery initially let it open whether the broadcaster will actually make use of the approved transaction.
