CTC Media has made a request for an easing of the upcoming restrictions on foreign ownership of Russian media companies.
According to Kommersant, it has asked for public companies to be excluded from the proposed 20% cap, which would have a particularly strong impact on CTC Media, currently 37.9% owned by Modern Times Group (MTG).
Meanwhile, local reports say that Alexei Volin, the deputy minister of media and mass communications, will meet with heads of media with foreign participation today (October 10) to discuss the upcoming law setting the 20% limit.
In the TV sector, the law will affect CTC Media, along with Disney and Russian language versions of such channels as Discovery, Nickelodeon and Universal Channel.
