It seems somewhat curious that a broadcast might have to approach the regulator to reduce the number of repeating showings in its schedule, but London Live has done just that.
The regulator has now accepted the troubled local stations bid to reduce the number of repeats in its programming commitments.
Last month, Ofcom refused a request to reduce the amount of peaktime local programming per day from three hours to one hour on the grounds that this would make the service much less local.
London Live’s operator ESTV then submitted a request to Ofcom i for a smaller change to its programming commitments to reduce the hours of repeats shown by the station. This request was significantly more limited in scope than its previous application.
Ofcom says the latest changes requested would not constitute a departure from the character of the service, and that they should be allowed. The volume of news, current affairs and original programming broadcast by London Live will not be affected.
