SatLink and Pi Telecom to deliver cloud based OTT platform

October 5, 2014 07.18 Europe/London By Robert Briel

SatLink Communications has announced a new partnership with Pi Telecom to launch a new End-to-End OTT cloud-based platform.

The solution, which combines Satlink’s global access to content and unique aggregation capabilities is available through a pay-per-service model, ready to launch a managed service via the cloud within days, avoiding the need to create an OTT broadcasting network.

The platform, which broadcasters and operators have the option of branding, enables broadcasters to offer niche genres, such as sports, movies, lifestyle or ethnic content, via a series of stable streaming options including live TV to VOD , TimeShift TV through to catch-up TV and live pausing functionality. Subscribers may watch content via both an application or optional Set Top Box’s based on their preferences with interactive content options.

Arie Aig, CEO of Pi Telecom, commented: “In today’s competitive environment, subscribers want the ability to access their favourite TV content wherever they are and whenever they want. The OTT platform allows broadcasters to develop a direct relationship with the subscriber and generate new revenue from its content.

“It is now possible, for example, for broadcasters to create a virtual channel with dedicated content to niche audiences via the cloud at lower cost, which presents them with the opportunity to reutilise old content and take advantage of additional commercial opportunities through advertising. There are also exciting developments from new additional monetisation models, which may link content to merchandise so viewers can easily purchase an item shown on screen.”

“For longevity in this market, broadcasters need to look for new and innovative solutions that develop their business, retain subscribers and reach new ones by meeting customer demands,” added David Hochner, CEO of SatLink Communications.

“As SatLink strengthens and expands into the field of internet-based content delivery we are addressing the challenges that broadcasters are facing in finding new revenue streams and expanding their reach. The ability to provide virtual channel dedicated feeds to audiences across the globe based on content preferences will be invaluable in the battle to win the hearts and minds of the subscribers, whilst generating additional profit for the broadcaster and operators themselves.

“Through this exciting partnership with Pi Telecom we aim to offer online all the benefits of traditional television in the best possible format. The user friendly and unique platform, which can be deployed immediately and easily by those with the extensive experience and knowledge to make it work, means the broadcaster can focus on the longer term development of the channel and business.”
