Roku is joining the current trend for screen mirroring with a beta that runs on Windows 8.1 and Android devices. It’s available on the Roku 3 and Roku Streaming Stick.
Suitable devices can pair with the Roku player and allow the TV to display whatever is on the mobile device.
It’s a feature already available on the Google Chromecast stick and between Apple TV and iOS devices.
Roku is highlighting the Play On Roku feature within the Roku mobile app that allows music, photos and videos saved on the smartphone or tablet to be played on the TV through any Roku player. It is also possible to use Netflix and YouTube in the same way.
The beta release began rolling out on Thursday and is expected to be available to all over the next few weeks.
