Cable Europe is not asking for more regulation but a level playing field. There cannot be different rules for OTT and linear services, according to Matthias Kurth, executive president of Cable Europe.
Speaking at Media Platform 2014 in Budapest, he added that a fundamental debate on this would follow, with the aim of reaching an agreement with the new relevant heads of the European Commission.
Kurth also said that while commercial agreements between OTT providers (such as Netflix) and infrastructure owners are to be encouraged, there is no need for a legal definition of specialised services we do not yet know what such services are.
Furthermore, he said that there is a need for a pan-European solution to the issue of accessing content throughout the content: nowadays, in a converged world, people want to watch their content wherever they want.
