Stefan Schulz and Sabine Anger, co-founders and since January 2013 managing directors of Watchever, will leave Vivendi’s German video-on-demand (VOD) portal at the end of September 2014.
Different views on the future development of the company led to a mutual solution, according to a statement issued by Watchever in Berlin.
The new managing director will be Karim Ayari (see picture). He comes from French parent company Vivendi where he has been working in the entertainment segment since 2009.
The changes at the top could be connected to recent industry speculation about Vivendi looking for a buyer for Watchever. The reason would be the high losses. Also, Vivendi apparently doesn’t want to enter a costly competition with US heavyweight Netflix which recently launched in Germany.
For a monthly flat fee of €8.99, Watchever offers movies, series and children’s programmes which uses can access on various devices through the internet.
