The Polish public broadcaster TVP will undertake Europe’s first 4K test transmission via HbbTV next month.
The internet-delivered signal will be demonstrated at the annual PIKE international conference and exhibition, which will take place in Lodz between October 6 and October 9.
Wirtualne Media reports that this will not be the first 4K trial by TVP, with the public broadcaster having undertaken one, via Eutelsat at 10 degrees East, during this year’s World Cup in Brazil.
Quoting Wieslaw Lodzikowski, the head of TVP Technology, it adds that although the public broadcaster has no plans to broadcast in 4K via DTT due to insufficient multiplex capacity, it may in due course do so over the internet.
Separately, TVP plans to sign a letter of intent with PIKE that give its hybrid services access to cable networks.
