RFE/RL to go worldwide on smart TVs

September 22, 2014 15.10 Europe/London By Robert Briel

Radio Free Europe_Radio LibertyRadio Free Europe/Radio Liberty will soon offer its content worldwide via a smart TV application.

The application has been developed for the media company by the Mautilus Company in Brno and is scheduled to be launched in February 2015 on Samsung and LG smart TVs.

The Mautilus Company specialises primarily in the development of clients’ applications for music and video streaming in mobile devices, game consoles and smart TVs.

“Activities of Radio Free Europe in the Middle East are broad. Nowadays we operate in the Arabian world as the main developers for end users of icflix in Dubai. An important customer like this will help us win recognition in Asia and other parts of the world,” said Rehor Vykoupil, director of Mautilus.

“It is an everyday routine for us to prepare applications for video and audio streaming. For the RFE/RL, it is especially our experience and expertise with graphic interface rotation which is of great importance, and which is necessary in the case of right-to-left languages. Apart from technical matters, this application development also represents a personal matter for us, linking us to our own past,” added Petr Mazanec, development manager, Mautilus Company.

RFE/RL broadcasts to 21 countries in 28 languages, including Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Russia, and employs over 400 full-time journalists, 750 freelancers, and has 19 local bureaus.
