Germany’s national telco Deutsche Telekom has selected Sport1 as its free-to-air TV partner for live coverage of domestic basketball league Basketball Bundesliga (BBL).
The commercial sports channel will show up to 48 games per season live and in HD quality in the 2014/15 and 2015/16 seasons. The rights contract has now been signed; financial details have not been disclosed.
In June 2014, Telekom secured all TV rights for BBL for the next four seasons until the 2017/18 season and will screen all games live on its IPTV platform Entertain as well as via PC, tablet and smartphone.
The agreement with Sport1 enables the broadcaster to transmit 34 games of the main round and 14 playoff matches on free-to-air television each season. The coverage will usually air Sundays at 15.00, 17.00 or 20.15 CET.
Kick-off is on October 2, 2014 at 20.15 CET with the game between current champion FC Bayern München and Mitteldeutscher BC.
