Verimatrix to protect Deutsche Glasfaser’s multiscreen platform

September 10, 2014 21.40 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

Verimatrix VCAS multiscreenGerman fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network operator Deutsche Glasfaser has selected Verimatrix, a US provider of cardless protection solutions for digital TV platforms, to secure its linear TV, radio, video-on-demand (VOD) and multiscreen services.

Deutsche Glasfaser’s IPTV platform is scheduled to launch in October 2014 and will offer subscribers access to around 100 SD channels, 50 HD channels and 100 radio stations. The cloud-based service can be accessed through multiple devices including a set-top-box from German company ABOX42, game consoles, both Android and iOS-based smartphones and tablets, PCs, Macs and connected TV sets.

“We chose to collaborate with Verimatrix on this important deployment as the Verimatrix Video Content Authority System (VCAS) offers us the flexibility to cost-effectively secure the services that our subscribers demand,” said Niels Jonkman, business manager at Deutsche Glasfaser. “The depth and breadth of the Verimatrix deployment ecosystem was also particularly attractive. Collaborating with best-of-breed vendors that have proven component integration points has certainly streamlined our deployment and reduced time to market.”

VCAS for internet TV provides a complete digital TV security solution for OTT services. Featuring enhanced HLS security, the solution secures pay-OTT services to multiple screens and across multiple network types including both broadcast (linear) and VOD delivery modes.

According to Verimatrix, VCAS provides pay-TV security features otherwise only found in managed DVB and IPTV networks, thus facilitating the licensing of premium content for OTT services.

Verimatrix will showcase its revenue security solutions for cable, satellite, terrestrial, IPTV and OTT operators at upcoming TV technology trade fair IBC 2014 in Amsterdam (booth 4.A55).
