German pay-TV broadcaster Sky Deutschland has made its subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) portal Snap available on multimedia stick Google Chromecast.
The OTT streaming service offering movies, series and children’s programmes for a monthly fee of €3.99 thereby reaches connected TV sets through a plug & play solution.
The Chromecast stick is connected to the TV set through the HDMI interface and hooked up to the customer’s local WiFi network, enabling the iPad, iPhone, selected Samsung Android smartphones and tablets to take Snap to the TV screen. The smartphone or tablet is also used as a remote control to navigate through the offering.
The app update to support Chromecast also makes the bookmaking function available on selected Samsung Galaxy smartphones and tablets. The app thereby remembers at which stage a programme was stopped and enables viewers to continue watching the programme at exactly this point in time when they return to it, even when the app was switched off in the meantime. The feature has so far only been available on the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch.
