21st Century Fox has no plans to buy the UK’s ITV, according to Chase Carey, the company’s president and CEO.
Speaking in the first session at the RTS London Conference Power, Politics and the Media, he added that while he could not comment about a possible future full take-over of Sky, Sky’s sole focus at present was the previously announced acquisition of Sky Italia and Sky Deutschland to build Sky Europe.
Carey emphasised the importance of local media in the marketplace and how its development has been the key to Fox’s success.
Although product will cross borders, local content is becoming increasingly important.
Carey brushed off criticism of US broadcasters voiced by David Abraham, Channel 4’s CEO, at last month’s MacTaggart Memorial Lecture at the Edinburgh TV Festival.
He cited some of the content Fox has launched in Italy and the big success of its content in the UK, adding that Fox has distinguished itself building businesses around the world and that it is more international than any of its peers in the US.
