ABOX42 deploys IPTV boxes to Deutsche Glasfaser

September 9, 2014 14.28 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

ABOX42-Deutsche-GlasfaserGerman fibre-optic network provider Deutsche Glasfaser has selected set-top-boxes from ABOX42, a German supplier of OTT, IPTV and hybrid receivers, for its new IPTV platform.

The recently unveiled multiscreen service will launch in October 2014 with around 100 SD channels, 50 HD channels and 100 radio stations.

According to ABOX42, its M-series Smart STB platform (model M20) was chosen by Deutsche Glasfaser because of its combination of features, performance and development environment.

The core features used in the project are an HTML5 user interface, advanced HLS adaptive bitrate streaming with multiple audio tracks and subtitles as well as HbbTV red button implementation allowing HbbTV services in combination with a HTML5 GUI and HLS unicast adaptive bitrate streaming.

Further features are support for Verimatrix VCAS DRM system and streaming formats side by side for live TV, catch-up TV and other services, support of Germany’s major VOD services and support of third-party smart TV applications.

Deutsche Glasfaser also uses ABOX42 OPX smart software-as-a-service and cloud TV services for lifecycle management of the set-top-box deployment among consumers.

ABOX42 will showcase a demonstration of the underlying technology at upcoming TV technology trade fair IBC 2014 in Amsterdam (hall 14.J13).
