French telecoms regulator ARCEP says there has been a 68% increase in fibre-optic broadband connections pver the last 12 months.
At the end of June 2014 the regulator reported 2.3 million super-fast internet connections including 715,000 fibre-optic connections.
The second quarter saw the total number of high-speed connections – defined as having a maximum downlink of 30 Mbps or greater – increase by 130,000 to over 2.3 million.
The number of broadband subscriptions with a maximum download speed of 30 Mbps or less totalled 23.1 million; an increase of 45,000 on the quarter.
Operators are continue to modernise their coaxial cable connections. By the end of Q2 2014 around 8.6 million homes could receive a high-speed fibre-optic connection. Of these 5.6 million can receive a speed of at least 100 Mbps.
