Orange may consider buying the Spanish telcos Jazztel and Yoigo should they come on the market, according to Federico Colom, the company’s CEO.
Speaking at the 28 Encuentro de las Telecomunicaciones summit and quoted by El Economista, he added that although consolidation has begun in the Spanish telco market, it still has a long way to go.
Colom was critical of the “polluting effect” of premium pay-TV offers on the Spanish telecom market.
He cited Telefónica, which has incorporated TV content in all its convergent offers in conditions that cannot be replicated by other operators.
It has been able to do so due to the dominant position it enjoys in the broadband market.
Colom was also critical of the exclusive content offered by Movistar TV and the damaging effect this has on competition.
He urged the regulator to act urgently on both this and Telefónica.
