German a fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network provider Deutsche Glasfaser wants to launch an IPTV platform with around 100 SD channels, 50 HD channels and 100 radio stations in September 2014.
The cloud-based platform will comprise linear TV, video-on-demand (VOD) and multiscreen services. Subscription to the basic package will cost €15 per month. Customers will also be able to sign up for telephony and internet access with speeds of more than 100Mbps.
Deutsche Glasfaser has chosen Elemental Technologies, a US supplier of software-defined video solutions for multiscreen content delivery, as the provider of video processing solutions for the platform.
Free-to-air and pay-TV channels will be transcoded to multiple H.264 profiles for delivery to TV screens via Deutsche Glasfaser’s TV Mediabox as well as to a custom Deutsche Glasfaser app for viewing on Android and iOS mobile devices through the customer’s local Wi-Fi network. Video streams will also be repurposed for a variety of VOD, time-shift and catch-up TV services.
Elemental Technologies will demonstrate its video solutions at upcoming TV technology trade fair IBC in Amsterdam September 11-16, 2014 in hall 4 on stand 4.B75.
