Fibre increased its share of Dutch broadband connections to 10% in the second quarter, according to research by Telecompaper.
Fibre grew 3.4% during the quarter. The total Dutch broadband market grew by 0.5% during the quarter to reach 6.83 million connections.
Cable was the largest broadband technology with 3.17 million connections, growing by 1.1% during the quarter. Cable now has 46% of the market.
The number of DSL lines decreased 0.9% to 2.98 million, 44% of the total broadband market.
KPN, including its XS4ALL and Telfort brands, is the largest broadband provider in the Netherlands with a 39.9% share at the end of June 2014, after losing 0.3% points compared with the previous quarter.
Ziggo was number two with a market share of 28.0%, and UPC came third with 16.1% of broadband subscribers.
Telecompaper estimates that retail revenues for the consumer broadband market grew by 1.2% to EUR 517 million in the second quarter of 2014 and forecasts a CAGR of 1.7% for the broadband revenues until 2018.
