A revamp to the Sky Electronic Program Guide has brought in a new recommendations feature and the launch of a Smart Series link.
The new recommendations option suggests new shows based on those that the viewer already has in their planner through shows that have been recorded or downloaded. Results offered will included both linear and on demand programmes.
Smart Series Link will now record the next and subsequent seasons of a favourite show.
For sports fans, a new Sports tile has been added to the Homepage, providing quick access to all the live sporting events that are currently showing on any channel. Sky customers will also be able to see movie DVD cover art for Sky Movies On Demand and Sky Store so they can quickly recognise the movies they are looking for.
Away from the headline features some additional functionality is also being added. HDMI One Touch means the Sky button on the remote now turns on the latest Sky+HD box and a compatible TV in one go from standby. It tunes the TV to the correct HDMI input if they’ve been using another device so there’s no need to pick up the other remote control. This is one of those functions that slipped away from the remote as connections moved from Scart to HDMI.
Customers will now be able to easily pair their viewing card without calling Sky; it just takes one press of a button on the Sky remote.
The software begins its rollout today and will be distributed across an installed base of 8 million compatible boxes by the year-end.
