Viasat has been issued with a warning by Ukraine’s National TV and Radio Council for a violation over its licence list.
It has also been told by Yuriy Artemenko, the council’s chairman, that as a major operator it should set an example to others.
Viasat has in addition been given a month to eliminate the violation.
A recent unscheduled inspection by the council sought to ascertain if the suspended Russian channels RTR Planeta and Rossiya 24 are retransmitted by Viasat. It confirmed that they are not.
During the inspection is was found that the company retransmitted 118 channels, but only has licenses for 70, so 49 channels were not on the retransmission list.
The list of licenses was not updated since the council was not operational for a while earlier this year.
Viasat now has a month to update the licences and has submitted the relevant documents to the council for licence approval.
