Telefónica is to focus increasingly on bundling and in particular its flagship product Fusíon.
According to El Pais, the latter, which already offers viewers TV, internet and fixed and mobile telephony will soon also include security services (alarms) and video games.
It adds that the telco’s objective is to monetize its fibre and 4G mobile networks, which provide the bandwidth to support such additional services.
In the case of the video games, Telefónica believes the market needs a technological breakthrough and that this is something it can provide.
This should come in late 2015, with the requirement being having a decoder that allows users to play games on different devices and to replace consoles.
Telefónica has seen its pay-TV subscriber total almost double to 1.2 million in the last year following on from the acquisition of broadcasting rights to several sports competitions and the integration of Movistar TV into Fusíon.
Its ultimate aim is to retain customers and reverse the decline in revenues it has experienced in recent years.
