Dutch public broadcaster NPO has added the premium NPO Plus on-demand service to its HbbTV offer.
For the moment the additional service is only available on Samsung TV sets from 2013 onwards, as the availability is dependent upon the content protection measures that are possible on the connected TV set.
NPO Plus is the premium service of the Dutch public broadcasters offering catch-up programmes from the three main channels Nederland 1, 2 and 3 in the best possible quality as well as additional content.
The broadcaster’s regular catch-up TV service Uitzending Gemist remains available on all HbbTV-equipped devices as well as on dedicated apps on most connected TV sets.Uitzending Gemist offers programs up to seven days after the original broadcast, while subscribers to NPO Plus can go back 365 days.
NPO Plus is available on the common premium catch-up TV platform NLziet, which also offers content from RTL and SBS and is available for EUR7.95 a month.
In a related development, NLziet has now also made its service available on Google Chromecast.
