German sports broadcaster Sport1 has acquired the exclusive German broadcast rights of the Champions Hockey League (CHL) for the 2014/15 season and will air the new top league of European ice-hockey clubs live on its free-to-air channel.
The contract was signed with Munich-based sports rights agency Sportsman Media Group which markets the rights in collaboration with CHL’s licencing partner Infront Sports & Media in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
As part of the agreement of which financial details have not been disclosed, Sport1 will transmit selected games with German teams in the group stage. After the group stage, the channel will show – independent of German participation – one match per round including the final on February 3, 2015.
In total, the rights package contains 13 live games. Kick-off is on August 22, 2014 at 19.30 CET with the game between Eisbären Berlin and the current Czech champion PSG Zlin.
