Switzerland’s largest cable operator UPC Cablecom has increased its number of internet and telephony customers in Q2 2014, but faced a decrease in classic cable TV subscriptions.
The number of internet customers rose by 25,100 to 700,500 and the number of telephony customers grew by 3,000 to 466,000.
The Liberty Global subsidiary, however, lost 6,400 TV customers at the same time, mainly due to the strong competition from IPTV providers such as Swisscom and Sunrise. In total, 1.42 million households had a UPC Cablecom cable TV subscription on June 30, 2014.
Multimedia box Horizon which combines TV, internet and telephony in one device, can now be found in more than 180,000 households. The mobile service launched at the end of April 2014 has gained over 1,000 customers so far.
UPC Cablecom’s turnover rose by 6.3% to CHF325 million (€267 million) in Q2 2014 compared with last year.
