Pay-TV was one of the main drivers for Telefónica’s business in its home market Spain in the second quarter.
The company ended June with 1,209,5000 subscribers, or almost double the 632,500 it had a year earlier.
Just in the three months to the end of June, its pay-TV subscriber total increased by close to half a million (479,200).
The company puts this strong growth down to the success of its refreshed convergent offer, launched on April 25.
There was, in particular, strong demand in Q2 for the new Movistar Fusión TV offer.
Telefónica notes that 131,000 TV Mini customers were included in the total pay-TV access base.
Also noteworthy was the continued reduction in churn, down one percentage point year-on-year and 0.3 percentage points on the previous quarter.
The Telefónica group as a whole had revenues of €12,725 million in Q2, up 1.3% year-on-year in organic terms (+3.7% excluding regulation).
OIBDA fell 0.7% year on –year in organic terms (+0.9% excluding regulation) and net income rose by 4.9% year-on-year to €1,210 million.
