Munich’s commercial local TV channel münchen.tv will transmit in HD quality for DTH satellite households in Europe on Astra (19.2° East) during this year’s Oktoberfest.
“We will broadcast our Oktoberfest programme on an HD transponder from September 20 to October 5,” managing director Christoph Winschuh told Broadband TV News. The live coverage of Munich’s world-famous beer festival will air each evening from 18.00 to 21.00 CET followed by repeats of the daily live footage and the programmes of thematic TV channels licensed to use münchen.tv’s frequency.
“This is, however, only a test to evaluate the practicability and relevance of an HD distribution of Bavaria’s local TV channels. After the Oktoberfest, the frequency will be switched off again,” said Winschuh. He added that münchen.tv is supported in this project by Astra satellite operator SES, technical service provider Media Broadcast and Bavarian media authority BLM.
The HD channel can be found on the frequency 10.964 GHz H (SR 22,000, FEC 2/3); the channel ID münchen.tv HD has already been activated. In standard definition (SD), münchen.tv transmits on Astra on the frequency 11.523 GHz H (SR 22,000, FEC 5/6).
