The launch of Horizon Go on UPC Ireland is under threat after RTÉ begun injunction proceedings in the High Court.
According to The Irish Times, the public broadcaster is looking for additional payments to compensate it for the inclusion of its content in the new out of home service.
RTÉ already has its own RTÉ Player app that allows viewers to watch live and recorded content.
Horizon Go enables live TV on tablets, smartphones and laptops and the corresponding apps for Apple and Android devices. However, there are already restrictions in other markets over which channels can actually be carried.
For instance, in Germany there are only 13 channels available outside the home on 3G/4G networks and on Wi-Fi hot spots. In Switzerland, UPC cablecom customers can watch most TV channels and films on their smartphone or tablet while out and about using Wi-Fi and 3G/4G.
RTE channels are not included in the equivalent Sky Go app, though the PSBs are available in the UK.
