Europe-wide roll-out for Horizon Go

July 16, 2014 10.10 Europe/London By Robert Briel

Horizon Go on AndroidFollowing the news of Horizon TV’s new name on the German Unitymedia Kabel BW networks, Horizon Go is now being rolled out across all UPC networks in Europe who offer Horizon.

The Horizon Go OTT offering enables live TV on tablets, smartphones and laptops and the corresponding apps for Apple and Android devices. However, the streaming live TV option outside the customer’s own home is not available in all countries or for all channels due to licencing issues.

For instance, in Germany there are only 13 channels available outside the home on 3G/4G networks and on WiFi hot spots. In Switzerland, UPC cablecom customers can watch most TV channels and films on their smartphone or tablet while out and about using WiFi and 3G/4G.

in The Netherlands can also access a number of channels outside their homes on WiFi and 3G/4G. Depending on the type of subscription, people have access to up to 82 channels including Nederland 1, 2, 3, RTL 4, 5, 7, 8 en SBS 6, Net5 and Veronica.

Horizon Go also incorporates the functionality of the Remote Control app, which offers an EPG and allows the customer to programme the PVR at home from any place. The app is not only available to Horizon customers, but to all UPC digital TV viewers. The application also offers improved menu navigation, and faster TV channel switching.
