Unitymedia Kabel BW to rename Horizon TV

July 14, 2014 12.18 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

Shot_4_Horizon_TV_Android_APP_kleinGerman cable operator Unitymedia Kabel BW will give its mobile TV service Horizon TV a new name: The OTT offering which enables live TV on tablets, smartphones and laptops and the corresponding apps for Apple and Android devices will be called Horizon Go from July 15, 2014.

“The name change underlines the direction we’ll take with our service: With the iOS and Android app, our customers will be able to enjoy our TV channel line-up and video-on-demand (VOD) content on the go,” said Christian Hindennach, senior vice-president marketing & products at Unitymedia Kabel BW.

At the same time, a revised iOS version will be published, available from the Apple Store from July 15, 2014. The application will offer improved menu navigation, faster TV channel switching, individual allocation of the channel list, administration of the youth protection and special 3G/LTE connection settings for accessing the content through mobile networks.

Customers which use the Horizon HD recorder or receiver can also use their smartphones as a remote control and shift the TV programmes from the app to the TV screen with one click through the push-to-TV feature.

With Horizon Go, cable customers can receive more than 90 TV channels and access the cable operator’s VOD service on mobile devices and computers through their local Wi-Fi home network. 13 TV channels can also be accessed through 3G/LTE mobile networks as well as third-party Wi-Fi hotspots including ARD, ZDF, ZDFneo and WDR Fernsehen.

Horizon Go is available to cable and internet customers of Unitymedia Kabel BW at no extra charge.
