US pay-TV network A&E will launch in Germany at the end of September 2014, replacing sister service The Biography Channel on all subscription platforms such as Sky Deutschland and Kabel Deutschland.
“The new channel will give us more possibilities,” managing director Andreas Weinek told German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung. He added that there was no space in the pay-TV market for a TV concept with biographies in the style of an educational channel.
A&E focuses on the genres family, crime, deals (auctions) and paranormal. The channel also wants to invest in original programmes produced in Germany. Weinek announced a series “in which we will present unique German personalities whose everyday life you’d like to share.”
