The Hungarian government is seeking to close a loophole in the controversial new ad tax law that would have benefited RTL Klub, the country’s leading broadcaster.
BBJ reports that László L. Simon, who drafted the law on behalf of the ruling Fidesz party, plans to fast-track an amendment that would limit several deductions RTL Klub could take advantage of in reducing its burden in the first year of the tax from HUF3.7 billion (€11.94 million) to HUF600 million.
The amendment is likely to be passed as soon as this Friday (July 4).
RTL Klub has been highly critical of the new law and the government.
In its view, it has been singled out unfairly by the legislation.
