NewSat secures Express-AM3 capacity

The Russian national satellite operator RSCC has signed an agreement with Australia’s NewSat to lease capacity of the Express-AM3 satellite 103 degrees East steerable beam.

Valid for three years, it will support an Asia telecom company, one of NewSat’s customers, with a total contract value of over $13 million.

Express-AM3, which was relocated to its current position from 140 degrees East this June, is used by Russian communications and broadcasting operators in the far east of Russia, central and eastern Siberia.

Under the terms of the new deal, its capacity will be used provide cellular and Wi-Fi backhaul services in the Asian-Pacific Region.

Commenting on the deal, Yuri Prokhorov, RSCC general director, said: “The agreement between RSCC and NewSat is an important milestone in the expansion of the Russian company’s customer base in the Asia-Pacific. We are glad to deliver NewSat a unique satellite platform capable of providing a wide range of services and applications for the end users in the region. We also hope to continue our further cooperation with NewSat and combine our joint efforts in offering communications and broadcasting services mostly required by the satcom market using RSCC’s satellites in the future.”

Adrian Ballintine, NewSat, Founder and CEO, added: “We are excited to work with new partners such as RSCC to support us meeting our customer’s unique requirements. RSCC is an established operator with a great reputation, they are expanding their fleet and are fantastic to work with. Technically astute and a strong organisation, we have developed an excellent relationship and look forward to working with RSCC on future opportunities.”
