The Polish National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT) has decided to allocate what will be the country’s eighth DTT multiplex (MUX-8) to the public broadcaster TVP.
The channels it will distribute on the multiplex will have to be in HD and offered to viewers free of charge.
Some of the channels are likely to be moved from the third multiplex, while others may be new.
A total of 18 companies, including TVP, expressed an interest in MUX-8 when it was first announced last year.
Poland currently has three fully operational multiplexes, offering viewers a total of 24 TV channels.
The first two are allocated to commercial services and third to TVP, though the public broadcaster still has a foothold on the first multiplex through its children’s channel TVP ABC.
