There are many politicians in other European countries who would like to act in the same way the Hungarian government has against RTL Klub, according to Andreas Rudas, executive VP, regional operations & business development CEE and Asia, RTL Group.
Speaking in a keynote and subsequent panel discussion, he added that if Europe ignores the situation that currently exists in Hungary it could be repeated elsewhere.
Rudas also made the point that the controversial new ad tax would have a negative impact on the Hungarian company.
Martin Boroszko, CEO, president of the board at Poland’s Atmedia Group, meanwhile said that Romania passed a law last year that in the long term could ruin the market, not only economically “but also the trust we are losing”.
Jim Helfgott, VP of marketing and sales, UPC DTH, said that any such legislation would ultimately see the customer suffer.
Magdalena Malinova, VP business development and strategic partnerships, TVBeat, said she wouldn’t be surprised if such actions could ultimately result in major international leaving some markets.
